Abstract
Diagnosis of macular rash in patients undergoing allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is challenging because lesions may mimic those of other common conditions such as drug reactions, viral exanthems or graft versus host disease. Opportunistic disseminated fungal infections, generally caused by Aspergillus and Candida species, should always be born in mind. Other emergent opportunistic fungal infections are being recently identified, including yeasts of the Saprochaete genus. We report a case of a patient with a macular rash caused by Saprochaete capitata (S.capitata) as the clue of a disseminated infection after allo-HSCT.
